Blaze Shields-Pettitt

1. Tell everyone reading this about yourself?

My name is Blaze Shields-Pettitt, I am 11 years old. I play as the goaltender for the Jr Belfast Giants. Last year I played for the u12s, this year I have moved up to the U14s. I have autism, ADHD, bilateral hydronephrosis (which is a condition that has caused severe damage to my kidneys), bladder reflux and have recently been diagnosed with Schmorls Nodes in my spine.

2. How did you get involved with ice hockey?

I have been going to the Belfast Hospital For Sick Children since I was born they gave me tickets to the Belfast Giants about 4 years ago. I enjoyed the night and wanted to be a goalie. I told my mum and dad I wanted to learn to skate, so I started getting lessons. My favourite Elite Goalie was Edinburgh Capitals Kevin Forshall, my dad told the Caps about me and they gave me and my brother a goalie only puck drop which was amazing. After 9 months of lessons I started training with the Jr Giants and after a year I was put in the team.

3. What message would you like to give other disabled people who feel their disability is a barrier to getting involved with sports? Don't let your condition hold you back, do what you want to do.

4. What disability sport should Peter take on as part of #ChallengePeter?

Peter should try sitting volleyball.
